Olli-Pekka Isola Posted March 22, 2021 Report Posted March 22, 2021 (edited) Hi experts, What face detection and face recognition applications do you recommend for Windows user? I know that Adobe Lightroom has face recognition. But are there viable alternatives? I would rule out Google Picasa and Microsoft Photo Gallery as they are end-of-life products. Saving people to XMP MWG (inside photo) is what is needed here. A capability to add people's names in ordimary tags is a bonus. Paul Barrett Posted March 22, 2021 Report Posted March 22, 2021 Frankly, I am waiting to see one that's worth the hassle. I've never found one with consistent enough results, or slick ways of correcting incorrect tags, missed faces and"faces" that aren't. Same with subject AI Quote
Olli-Pekka Isola Posted March 22, 2021 Author Report Posted March 22, 2021 I agree, they aren't perfect. I still feel that they speed up the people tagging considerably. Tag That Photo (https://tagthatphoto.com/) seems to have confidence setting that eliminates some false faces. Quote
Uwe Posted March 22, 2021 Report Posted March 22, 2021 Hello, Excire seems to be on the way to handle faces. Quote
k1w Posted April 1, 2021 Report Posted April 1, 2021 Another vote for Tag That Photo (https://www.tagthatphoto.com). I've used it for a couple of years to tag tens of thousands of faces in my photo collection. I've also found their release schedule is decent (several updates per year), their support helpful, and they listen to user feedback. Quote
rene Posted April 9, 2021 Report Posted April 9, 2021 well, i was pretty happy with Picasa, but this is too outdated, therefore i found DigiKam that even detects Animal faces 1 Quote

Even though it is not supported anymore, it still works fine for face recognition and allows a quick way to export with cropping, scaling down and adding a watermark. A while ago, I did look at DigiKam as an alternative DAM solution, but came to the conclusion it is big monster and not worth it. Does it really make sense to use it just for face recognition only? Well WilfriedB, i agree with you, I just tried it out to see if it work, and it does for me, though, I haven't found out, how i can set it up so it doesn't override other metadata and that Daminion can read it Hence, DigiKam is Open Source, it might be a relatively easy task to use the face detection of DigiKam in Daminion Quote
