Below are the list of features and bug fixes of the Daminion 3.3 version since the Daminion 3.0.

 

Finding Duplicates

 

You can now instantly locate and remove duplicate images from your catalog. Expand the “Saved Searches” tag and click on the “Duplicates” value.

 

 

All your duplicate items will be displayed side by side as a single list. You can then remove duplicate items one by one or identify the whole duplicate folders and quickly clean your digital asset repository.

Some DAM solutions has an option to prevent importing duplicates on the import stage. However you in some case you can’t import files from a right folder if duplicate files from a “wrong” folder were imported prior to files from the “right” folder. The “post-import” way of finding duplicates allows you to visually select the right duplicate versions after the ingesting process will be ended and allows you to see them and their locations visually.

Another benefit of this approach is you can display all duplicates almost immediately by clicking on the “Saved Searches > Duplicates” tag.

This method of duplicate finding locates only 100% identical images, but their metadata part might be differ, because Daminion compares only visual part of images and videos. For some old catalogs you need to rebuild thumbnails for part of your content to make it work properly (via the “Item > Update Thumbnail” command)

 

Synonyms

Synonyms allows you to make your searches more precise. For example, an emotion tag “Happy” might have the following synonyms: blissful, cheerful, chipper, delighted, ecstatic, elated, glad, joyful, jubilant, merry, pleased, thrilled, tickled pink, laugh. So you can keep and maintain simple tag structure and hide the synonyms.

The visual part of your tag list will be significantly simplified because you can assign just one tag “Happy” now and don’t care whether you don’t forgot to apply all its synonyms to an image.

You can optionally display synonyms along with tags in the tags tree (via the “Display Synonyms” option in the context menu of the tags tree)

 

 

A few facts about Synonyms:

• Synonyms can be added to keywords, categories, people, genre, subject code, scene and custom tags
  
• Synonyms are stored in the database only and will not be saved into the metadata via manual or automatic syncing. However you can write synonyms into the image metadata during the exporting
  
• Synonyms are involved in quick searches and filtering of the tags tree.
  
• Umlaut-free lower-case synonyms are created automatically if you’ll create a new tag that contains umlaut symbols, that enables case-insensitive searching in local catalogs. For example if you'll add items with "Länge" keyword, they can be located by entering “lange” in the quick search box.
  
• Synonyms along with tags can be imported (from) or written to the text file. See below for more info.
  
• A hint with synonyms will be displayed when mouse will be over a tag in the Properties panel.
  

 

 

 

Tag Groups

Sometimes it make sense to group a large list of unsorted tags, especially read-only tags, like media format and camera model.

Now you can tell to Daminion to find Images or Video or both, without necessity to create a complex queries with specifying all image and video formats:

 

 

The camera model also will be grouped by the camera manufacturers, however this will work for newly imported items only, all previously imported models should be arranged manually or via the “Item> Actions > Read Tags from File” command.

Media format groups will be created for all newly imported files. Formats from the root can be moved to groups manually in the tags tree. Camera model will be grouped by camera vendors (in the next Daminion version).

Some facts about Tag groups:

• Tag Groups are not saved into the image metadata during tag synchronization.
  
• Only root level groups can be created
  
• The following tags are not supported creation of groups: Folders, Saved Searches, Creation DateTime, Place, Flag, Color Label, Rating.
  

 

Expired License Date

A new Expired License Date tag will prevent you from expensive penalties due to publication of images with expired license dates. Once the date of license for item usage will be expired the thumbnail of this item will be marked and this file will be excluded from exporting, printing, emailing, etc... processes.

 

 

 

 

 

Note: a few things should be done with this feature.

 

New Tags

IPTC consortium creates and maintenance a controlled vocabulary or a taxonomy of 3 metadata tags: Scene, Genre and Subject Codes. Each vocabulary comes with a code and its meaning that can be translated to various languages. These controlled vocabularies are part of the CV from controlledvocubulaly.com or you can download them from IPTC web-site.

Daminion will import these codes as tags and their descriptions as synonyms. If you’ll enable displaying synonyms you can see both the code and description in the tags tree.

 

 

During tag syncing only the code value will be saved into the metadata.

 

 

Lock Editing Tags

Administrator of server catalogs can now protect tag structure from unwanted changes by others so other users might assign tags (to) or remove them from items, but can’t change the tag structure.

This option is available for admins only for shared catalogs via the “Catalog > Lock Tag Editing…” command

 

 

Improved Performance

Large images are now displayed up to 5 times faster in the full screen mode. Displaying thumbnails are now cached for Daminion Server catalogs and displayed faster. This also impacts to overall Daminion Server loading.

 

Added Experimental support for VIPS image processing library

This library can process TIFF files faster and without occupying a lot of memory even for huge TIFF files.

To enable this option download the VIPS library and save it in the folder with “vips” name in the MediaProcessor\ImageProcessor folder in the Daminion or Daminion server installations

 

Improved Compare Items window

Drastically was improved the “Compare Items” window. The thumbnail row is displayed now below the comparing images. You can change images in frames by mouse wheel or clicking on the thumbnail row, exclude photos, close the frames or mark image as master copy. Plus the overlay technical info can be displayed above the images.

 

 

Large Query Panels can be collapsed now

 

 

Experimental Options

It' possible to now find selected image and visually similar via the Internet. You can find this option in the Help menu as the “Experimental > Find images in the Internet...” command

 

Additional Tag Panel

Working with large tag lists is now faster. It's possible now to display the second tag in the Folders panel. And drag and drop Keywords from 1 panel to another by avoiding scrolling it numerous of times.
