danfloun
Can I assume that custom tags are not written to the media file? In other words, they work the same as 'Collections' in that the custom tag value will be lost if the media file is removed and then re-added back to the catalog? Thanks Daniel
Uwe
Hello danfloun, neither the "Collection" tag nor the "Custom" tag get lost because they are written in the XMP data of the file (e.g. for DNG, TIF, JPG files). Volker
Hello, this is not correct for all file types. I have for example lots of PSP files, that don't contain the metadata and there are no XMP files created for them. In this case the information is only stored in the Daminion database. And if the files are removed and re-added the information is lost. Volker
Jacal
Daniel, you can use the built-in metadata viewer to see al the metadata, actually written to a file (Show All Metadata...). Here is the list of supported formats: https://daminion.net/feature-tour/daminion/broad-format-support And here you can download Daminion Metadata Mapping Rules (pdf): https://daminion.net/feature-tour/daminion/support-for-xmp-iptc-exif-mwg-metadata Have a nice day! That means, one has to define these formats in the Import Filter to add such files to the catalog. And now we are back to the general request to write XMP sidecar files in any case Daminion can't write the information in the file itself. damo
It would be great to be able to "sidecar" any files including one that support MetaData. Sometime I do not want do change the source materials, eg. A image jpeg file. You should use the Feedback/Feature Request/Uservoice thing if you want to have a chance of this being added.
