Feature request : "Group by"

Hi,

 

Daminion is getting better and better :-) , enough to use it as main DAM (Great) but some features are still missing. (Yes I know to do list is not yet empty.)

 

By now you have "Sort by" but not "Group by".

 

With "Group by" feature, you could group and display thumbnail by any Tag you want.

(Group by Folder, Author, ISO, Orientation, .....)

You will still be able to sort thumbnail by any Tag you want while a Group is selected.

 

By now, you can consider that "Group by" is None.

Speaking as a software developer myself, I have to ask: how are the groups themselves sorted? Just alphabetically or is something else needed?

 

I think this would be a nice display enhancement, though I can't say it would be at the top of my list.

Group and Sort feature has to be close together.

When selecting a "Sort By", it sort it inside each 'Group'.

This feature was incorporated into the PicaJet UI from the beginning.

 

Adding this option will require changing the program logic (UI, DB, Queries, Testing, etc...), and this is very time-consuming job, that will be reflected on other tasks that have higher priority for us.

 

But thanks for the suggestion and for your great prototype screenshots. And for the photo from the Antarctida too ;)

Another way to nearly do it with less work would be to move 'Folder' choice in main sort choice.

Sorting by Folder is, I think a "top five" sorting choice, which should be faster to choose.
