Murat
Hi N.Cocteau! I am sorry for the delay with answer - during the past few days we were busy a bit with optimizing preview rendering. Thanks for the valuable testing and report. The problem you've mentioned was fixed, and a new update will be ready during a few days. But Daminion will ignores .xmp sidecars in case of the JPEG files. We'll take into account .xmp sidecars only for those formats that permit writing XMP block into the files themself (Camera RAW, Video). Murat
Thanks for the detailed report! This is a known bug (#2093). I've appended an extra vote for this issue. Adding a warning message for readonly files might be annoying. May be it will be better to mark thumbnails of such files with an appropriate icon

Murat
4: select > IMG_103-0605.CR2 > Read Tags from File FAIL: Label is not Blue There was a bug in Daminion and the program didn't write XMP:MetadataDate to xmp sidecar file after changing it's metadata. This field is used to compare which file is newer: CR2 with XMP Block or its XMP sidecar. And based on this information we decide where is located the most actual metadata info. The bug was fixed in the 642 build. Thank you! 5: New tagging of IMG_103-0605.JPG > set to Label Orange > Write Tags to File FAIL: IMG_103-0605.JPG File is unchanged to HD I was unable to reproduce this issue. Is the file marked as Readonly?

Murat
and I am very very sad. Too bad that even Daminion all metadata writes directly in the JPEG, TIFF etc. :( All my images are read-only. Unable to reproduce it with 644 build. Daminion not saves metadata into JPEG and TIFF marked as Readonly. Partial support for .THM files will be added in the next Daminion build: .thm sidecars will be renamed according to a base file naming rules, and Daminion will read metadata from .thm during file importing. It's not clear how to write metadata into video or raw images when your media library contains files with different sidecars: part of the images might have .thm sidecar files another part - .xmp sidecar files. I can suggested the next way: - write to an existing sidecar file (.thm or .xmp) if only one sidecar is existed on a disk - write to .xmp sidecar if both sidecar files are existed or no sidecars are found
n.cocteau
Unable to reproduce it with 644 build. Daminion not saves metadata into JPEG and TIFF marked as Readonly. No, unfortunately misunderstood. All my images are read-only, so I can not syncronize or write to the images. I hope, therefore an option: read and write ONLY in sidecars. Embed images: JPEG, TIFF, DNG, etc: filename.ext <> filename.ext.xmp <rdf:Description rdf:about='' xmlns:photoshop='http://ns.adobe.com/photoshop/1.0/'> <photoshop:SidecarForExtension>ext</photoshop:SidecarForExtension> </rdf:Description> --------------------------------------------------------------- a proposal, to save the Collection-Tags: <rdf:Description rdf:about='' xmlns:mwg-coll='http://www.metadataworkinggroup.com/schemas/collections/'> <mwg-coll:Collections> <rdf:Bag> <rdf:li rdf:parseType='Resource'> <mwg-coll:CollectionName>Collection A</mwg-coll:CollectionName> <mwg-coll:CollectionURI>http://www.mysite.com/photos/collectionA</mwg-coll:CollectionURI> </rdf:li> <rdf:li rdf:parseType='Resource'> <mwg-coll:CollectionName>Collection B</mwg-coll:CollectionName> <mwg-coll:CollectionURI>http://www.mysite.com/photos/collectionB</mwg-coll:CollectionURI> </rdf:li> </rdf:Bag> </mwg-coll:Collections> </rdf:Description>
Murat
Thanks for the pointing to appropriate XMP specification fields. Could you please explain why you don't want to write metadata into JPEG files? Regarding Collections: we plan to add a set of improvements to Collection tag and we can map it the MWG metadata as well as make it Hierarchical.
