Daminion displays this warning, when you try to checkout the files then where imported without uploading. Because Daminion will not be able to protect your photos by version control when anyone can access your photos. So Version Control works with Uploaded files only, that cannot be accessed from outside of the server PC, except via Daminion Client. Quote
