t.hufmann
Hi there, We're trying to get thumbnails for AI and EPS files going and and does not seem to work with the Sagethumbs & Ghostscript workaround. Anyone experienced that too? Would really love to have previews of my AI's and EPS without having to make jpg's of them all... Till
Murat
Do you see the thumbnails of your EPS/AI images in the Windows Explorer? Can you send me a sample EPS file that is not rendered on your PC?
Uwe
Hello Till, I don't have that problem with AI-Files. EPS Files written by Adobe Illustrator have the thumbnail preview, written by Adobe PS don't have the thumbnail preview. But not yet checked any details of "Save as..." EPS files in PS. See screenshot. The source file was the PSD file. Regards, Uwe
Murat
Daminion can extract embedded thumbnails from EPS/AI. But it's possible to render the EPS/AI files even without embedded thumbnails using the GhostScript and SageThumbs: https://daminion.net/tutorials/ai-eps-support After installing the both two program you should see the EPS/AI thumbnail within your Windows Explorer. If no, we need to analyze the "problematic" files but in most cases this task is solely related to the GhostScript.
t.hufmann
As Uwe postet, if i give the EPS files a thumbnail in Adobe Illustrator they have one, but for eps files downloaded, for example, from shutterstock, there is no preview. AI files don't work at all. I don't have thumbnails in the Explorer. Attached you find an EPS that doesn't preview in Daminion. Is it even possible to have previews in explorer, without installing software on the client side? Thank you for the quick response, Till test.zip
Uwe
Hi Till, I see the preview of your test.eps in Daminion. See screenshot: I can open the test.eps in PS CS6 but not in AI CS6. There I get the information: this file is created by a newer version of AI and can't open in AI CS6. Regards, Uwe
Murat
Unfortunatelly the latest publicly available GhostScript 9.14 version can't render the test.eps file, while it can render the previous EPS file from ShutterSpeed that you sent me (without the built-in preview image) early. Unfortunatelly this task is completelly depended from the GhostScript. You can also try to find another Windows Shell Extension that allows you to view EPS files in Windows Explorer (and that will be automatically supported by Daminion also) but most of such tools are related to the GhostScript. This test EPS file cannot be opened even by the Adobe Illustrator CS5. You need to wait untill a new GhostScript versionwill be available with support for rendering such images. Sedat
Hi there, there is an another tool called "MysticThumbs" which can generate ai and eps previews for Daminion. It is not freeware but 9 business licenses cost only 29$. The GostScript comes in package with this tool so you only need to install MysticThumbs and all previews are there. And don’t forget to rebuild the already existing thumbs in Daminion in order to get them to display. Here you can find the website of MysticCoder: http://mysticcoder.net/mysticthumbs.html
Murat
Sedat, thank you for pointing to MysticThumbs. I've added a reference to MT to the tutorial
Murat
The latest Daminion 4.5 can render EPS/AI images via GhostScript without commercial third-party tools. GhostScript will be installed and configured automatically during new Daminion installation.
