File creation date problem

I have 103 JPEG images that were colour corrected. I don't remember what software I used to do the colour correction in this case.

In Daminion the "File Creation Date" now shows the date the files were modified.

When I look at the files using exiftool, the file creation date still appears correct.

The Create date appears as: "Date/Time Original", "Create Date", and "Date/Time Digitized".

The File Modification date appears as: "Modify Date", "File Modification Date/Time", and "Metadata Date".

I don't have the same problem with NEF files which I have modified.

Thanks for the files.

We've corrected the Creation DateTime mapping rules to better match to the MWG Guidelines:

Below is the source metadata list for the Creation DateTime tag:

  • EXIF: DateTimeOriginal
  • XMP: Photoshop_DateCreated
  • IPTC: DateTimeCreated
  • XMP: XMP_CreateDate
  • File: CreationTime

Hi Murat;

Glad to know the files were of use.

I am too busy to dig into the details of EXIF, XMP, IPTC etc. fascinating as I am sure they are. I just want programs to work.

I also realize that for programs to "just work" is a real challenge for developers because you have to deal with the effects created by all the other programs that touch the files. I don't envy you a bit.

Keep up the good work. I think you have a great product here.

Thanks for the files.

We've corrected the Creation DateTime mapping rules to better match to the MWG Guidelines:

  • XMP: Photoshop_DateCreated
  • IPTC: DateTimeCreated
  • XMP: XMP_CreateDate
  • File: CreationTime

Looks like Daminion is ignoring XMP:CreateDate. I have a picture that is being shown in Daminion as 2014, but it was created in 2006:

c:\bin>exiftool -s -G:0:1 -Time:All "Q:\Media\Personal\Pictures\2006\IMG_2422.JPG"

[File:System] FileModifyDate : 2014:05:16 22:08:45-04:00

[File:System] FileAccessDate : 2014:05:16 22:08:45-04:00

[File:System] FileCreateDate : 2014:05:16 22:08:45-04:00

[EXIF:IFD0] ModifyDate : 2006:03:09 18:46:21

[XMP:XMP-xmp] CreateDate : 2006:03:09 18:46:21-05:00

[XMP:XMP-xmp] MetadataDate : 2006:03:09 18:46:21-05:00

[iCC_Profile:ICC-header] ProfileDateTime : 1998:02:09 06:49:00

CreateDate is being ignored. FileCreateDate is being shown in Daminion.

I'm using 3.2 build 1009

And now I verified that XMP:XMP-photoshop:DateCreated is also being ignored...

Check out sample trouble file in attachment:

[File:System] FileModifyDate : 2014:05:26 13:05:40-04:00

[File:System] FileAccessDate : 2014:05:26 13:03:24-04:00

[File:System] FileCreateDate : 2014:05:26 13:03:24-04:00

[EXIF:IFD0] ModifyDate : 2014:05:20 09:48:30

[EXIF:ExifIFD] CreateDate : 2012:11:11 21:00:58

[XMP:XMP-photoshop] DateCreated : 2012:11:11 21:00:58

Those CreateDate and DateCreated fields are being ignored. File shows up in Daminion catalog with Creation Datetime: 2014:05:26 13:03:24
