Thanks for the question! A Daminion catalog is stored the information about its version. So when we'll release a new version the program updates the previous catalog version (if any). It occurs transparently for the Daminion users so you'll even don't see this process.

 

I guess the database structure is flexible and stable enough. Plus Daminion will automatically backups the tags to the metadata. And all the Daminion new versions will be able to extract/restore the tags information from the metadata, no matter what future Daminion version you will use.

 

But the last paragraph is valid for media formats that support an ability to write to the IPTC and XMP metadata.
