Recommended (Shared) Catalog Size

I was wandering if there is a recommended maximum of how many files a single (Shared) Catalog should contain.

Are there any downsides of having "huge" catalogs (maybe performance wise)?

Some of our users use Daminion Server catalogs to manage more than 1 million assets (per server catalog). Performance might slightly degrade. I recommend to run Catalog > Optimize command from time to time to avoid it.
