Herb
Hello everybody, I am new to Daminion. I work with this application (the stand alone version) since some days only. What I have seen, it is a great application. Congratulations for it. But I also have some questions: I work with version 0.9.8 build 716 1) Daminion has the option in Preferences --> Metadata: "add compatibility with old programs". My interpretation is that only in case of this option is checked the tags will also be written into the EXIF and/or the IPTC sections of an image. In case of it is unchecked, only XMP tags will be created/written. But my experience is that always XMP and also EXIF and IPTC tags are written. Is this an error or what I am doing wrong? 2) The above mentioned option tells that it will only work for JPEG and TIFF files. But I have seen that it is also valid for RAW files (in my case *.orf images). So I suggest that only the description is wrong. We use Adobe XMP Toolkit to update XMP block inside the images and it also updates corresponding IPTC fields in some case. This option can't be switched off. I'll check whether the things were changed in a new XMPToolkit version. 2) The above mentioned option tells that it will only work for JPEG and TIFF files. ORF files will be updated only if you check "Add Camera RAW format support > Write tags into EXIF/IPTC/XMP". Please check it.
Herb
Hello Murat thanks for your quick reply. ad 1): Thanks for the clarification. ad 2): Yes, the option "Write tags into EXIF/IPTC/XMP" was checked. The feature is ok. But my comment was against the text "Add compatibility with old programs" "Tags will be written into EXIF/IPTC for JPEG and TIFF formats (slow)" because (for me) it sounds that tags never will be written for e.g. ORF files. For me line 2 should be "Tags will also be written into EXIF/IPTC (slow)" Thanks and Best regards Herb

Herb
Hello Murat, May be it will be better to move the "for JPEG and TIFF formats" words to the checkbox text: [ ] "Add compatibility with old programs for JPEG and TIFF formats": "Tags will be written into EXIF/IPTC for these formats" I did a short test with an *.orf image: - I added a keyword containing one german umlaut only - option "Write tags into EXIF/IPTC/XMP" was checked for RAW images - option "Add compatibility ... for JPEG and TIFF ..." was also checked I have seen that - an IPTC section was newly created and Does it mean that "Add compatibility ..." is always checked implicitely for RAW images: Then your text is the proper one. But if it is checked only because "Add compatibility .. for JPEG/TIFF ..." is checked explicitely Then it is better to use my text proposal. - tag CodedCharacterSet was set to UTF8 Why is this tag set in case of a RAW image? Why not to use UTF8 encoding also in case of JPEG and TIFF images? Thanks and Best regards Herb
