Prolog
Hi! I'm a "rookie" user who work in a consulting firm in Sweden. We work in the construction business and take loads of photos. We have around 20.000 of them on or file server at the moment. I have successfully installed the server edition and my client can connect to the central database. But I simply do not understand how I can create my own Catalog Tags? We (of course) need to delete all the "built-in" tags and replace them with suitable tags for our business (and also in Swedish). What am I doing wrong? Is this maybe a limitation since I haven't bought a license yet? Thanks!
Murat
Hi Mattias, Welcome to Daminion community! We have a lot of Daminion and PicaJet users from AEC market so your requirements is important for us. The feature you asked will be named "Custom Tags" and we plan to implement it in the future Daminion version - after implementing Sync Folders (will be available on the next release) and User Roles. At the moment the most appropriate place to create your own tags is Categories tag. You can create your own tags structure as sub-categories. Of course this works for textual tags. The major benefit of this approach: your categories will be mapped into XMP and stored along with your images. Could you please send me your tag structure in txt format to support at daminion.net for learning? Please don't hesitate to share your ideas/suggestions! I can send you some more details about our needs tomorrow (end of my working day in Sweden is near). I do have another question: We simply need to put the database on our file server and have the users easily search for tags/categories. Do we need to purchase Daminion server for all of our 10 users? We do not need access simultaneously.
Murat
We simply need to put the database on our file server and have the users easily search for tags/categories. Do we need to purchase Daminion server for all of our 10 users? We do not need access simultaneously. You have two options: 1. Create a local Daminion catalog and place it on a shared location. Then open this catalog remotely on each client computer. 2. Use Daminion Server. The problems with the first approach: 1. The major problem is the potential risk to damage your catalog file due to simultaneous changes of the same catalog file. Risk exists in case of the 10 users. 2. You can't see others changes until reload the catalog 3. Performance: depending from the amount of Daminion programs that opened the sames catalog the performance might be significantly decreased. More info here. The final price for Daminion Server can be decreased: - 25% discount is available up to 15 feb 2012 - Additional discounts are available for participation in testing the product, publishing an articles on the Internet, etc...
