Russell
Hi Everyone, I want to embed my tag, categories, people, keywords, etc into my files' metadata. I suspect there's limits to the size of these areas - or maybe some software packages limit the number of characters they read? What are my restrictions? Thanks, Russell

Cactus
Any idea, anyone? Thanks, Russell Limitations may be in Daminion, in EXIF, in IPTC, in XMP. I met some of them - link. But there is not enough information.
Murat
Daminion writes your tags to XMP and optionally to provide backward compabity to IPTC. IPTC has significant limitations to the length of your fields, especially for Unicode (UTF8) coded strings. Thus by default Daminion writes to XMP block only (and writing to XMP part only is much faster). There is no limitation for separate XMP fields, because all fields are part of the single XML block inside your images or other documents. But the size of the XMP Packet can be at most 65502 bytes. This is about 30 pages of text (with Latin encoding). It should be enough for the most avid writers.
Russell
Probably a dumb question, but where can I turn off that backward compatibility so I just get the long field names I'm creating? Thanks, Russell
Cactus
Probably a dumb question, but where can I turn off that backward compatibility so I just get the long field names I'm creating? As I understand, XMP used always. And if you turn on compatibility option, then IPTC will be used too. Option can be found at Edit -> Preferences -> Writing Metadata -> Add compatibility with Windows Explorer and old programs
Russell
Thanks Cactus and Murat, I hope this works for me.; haven't had a chance to test it yet. Russell
