focus
Hey, I noticed Daminion truncates some tags names after writing them to the file IPTC metadata like this: http://i.imgur.com/pYsffIm.png
Murat
Almost all IPTC fields have a limit for maximal length of characters? This is way you see the truncated categories. But Daminion will ignores these truncated fields during image importation.
focus
Hey, Murat! Thanks for your answer! Daminion still use this truncated names while importing images though, like this: http://i.imgur.com/595kGJf.png And how daminion gets the full name? Is it stored somewhere in file? Maybe IPTC tags filling could be disabled in that case?
Murat
Daminion still use this truncated names while importing images though, like this: http://i.imgur.com/595kGJf.png Probably some third-party software had been used to edit this picture? If you'll send me a picture that contains the truncated tags I can check it. And how daminion gets the full name? Is it stored somewhere in file? Maybe IPTC tags filling could be disabled in that case? Daminion writes tag's information into XMP and optionally into IPTC and EXIF for images. XMP doesn't have limitations for the length of metadata fields like IPTC and EXIF have. Thus, during image importation we check whether the truncated IPTC keywords are sub-strings of the appropriate XMP keywords. I'll check whether we do the same for categories either tomorrow from the office computer.

If you'll send me a picture that contains the truncated tags I can check it. No any third-party software was used with those photos, only some previous Daminion versions. And looks like I used write to EXIF/IPTC option in Daminion settings in previous versions. Attached here one of such files: Daminion writes tag's information into XMP and optionally into IPTC and EXIF for images. And I'll appreciate any of your comments on other posts I made recently - that would be great. I'll be glad to help you to investigate any other issues I reported since it's really important to me to help you with Daminion polishing and bugs hunting (since I use it for my home photos archive and really happy with it). Murat
Thanks for the image. The problem with truncated categories is because the Adobe XMP Library that we use to write XMP into the images also writes Categories into IPTC:SupplementalCategories. And Daminion read these truncated fields during the import. We'll exclude truncated IPTC:SupplementalCategories from the import like we do with Keywords. Murat
I've just tried add an image from the above post into the 854 build and it was imported without truncated IPTC category.
focus
Could you please try to import this file? I got this in latest Daminion build after importing it: http://i.imgur.com/TJlHJ2v.png
Murat
Could you please try to import this file? What software did you use to write the truncated category? I need this to reproduce the issue.
focus
I used Daminion only for processing this photos. So this was one of the Daminion's earlier version...
