[817] Tag names are truncated in IPTC

Daminion still use this truncated names while importing images though, like this:

Probably some third-party software had been used to edit this picture?

If you'll send me a picture that contains the truncated tags I can check it.

And how daminion gets the full name? Is it stored somewhere in file? Maybe IPTC tags filling could be disabled in that case?

Daminion writes tag's information into XMP and optionally into IPTC and EXIF for images. XMP doesn't have limitations for the length of metadata fields like IPTC and EXIF have. Thus, during image importation we check whether the truncated IPTC keywords are sub-strings of the appropriate XMP keywords.

I'll check whether we do the same for categories either tomorrow from the office computer.

No any third-party software was used with those photos, only some previous Daminion versions. And looks like I used write to EXIF/IPTC option in Daminion settings in previous versions.

Thanks for detailed answer! Would be great to know results of your investigation!

And I'll appreciate any of your comments on other posts I made recently - that would be great. I'll be glad to help you to investigate any other issues I reported since it's really important to me to help you with Daminion polishing and bugs hunting (since I use it for my home photos archive and really happy with it).

Thanks for the image. The problem with truncated categories is because the Adobe XMP Library that we use to write XMP into the images also writes Categories into IPTC:SupplementalCategories. And Daminion read these truncated fields during the import.

We'll exclude truncated IPTC:SupplementalCategories from the import like we do with Keywords.
