  1. Hi Guys, i bought the standalone version 7.0.0 (2449) this week and also got this issue. After some tries and study this forum i believe i get the solution. Please run the daminion as an administrator by click right mouse and "run as an administrator" ... after this my pictures were sorted correctly. -> taken date instead creation time. Additional all file-attributs were changed to the correct taken date. I guess it is a bug with the rights (or a Microsoft-Feature) to reading the file-attributs. Because of, i got another issue by reading the cameratype to create the filename of the photos. I think daminion try to read the attribut (taken date) and cant this, because of the missing rights in the user session. Therefore daminion falls back to read the creation date. I hope this helps ... 2. Yes, I mean the posting from Paul above. We already have a thread dealing with the new GUI, where the new GUI comes off badly. No need for a new thread. This new thread looks like image polishing. BTW: Still waiting for a screenshot of the new GUI 🙂 Concrete proposal (honestly, without any expectations): 1) It seems like most of us users do not like the new GUI. It is old fashioned, unclear, all in one color. Please give us back the previous look. 2) Following the above-cited thread, it seems as if no serious users were involved in the beta tests. Why? 3) Please try to fix existing bugs before adding new features. At least change your priorities to A)fix bugs, B) add new features 4) No, I am not willing to re-discuss the bugs I sent to the dev team 4 times (!) in the past 2 (!) years in order to get the next (4th or 5th?) promise that it will be fixed in the next version....

  3. Thanks for the feature, works nice so far. On my wish-list: When assigning the recognized faces, it would be very helpful to have the option to open the photo (maybe add this option to the right mouse button menu). Sometimes it is not possible to assign the face only on the basis of the thumbnail shown.

  4. Hi Daria, I assume a wish list is not in Daminion's interest, is it? Kind regards, Erwin

  5. Hi, I'll wait until the license expires and then get the last version. I will then test them and verify whether I change or not. At the moment I'm on 6.8.0.2380 Server and I'm staying there. Wilfried wrote: "I could make a long list of inconsistent or inconvenient behaviors of the user interface, but to be honest, I gave up to report those, because I came to the impression, nobody cares about it or doesn't have enough resources to do more on it (which is understandable). " and I can only sign that. See also my post from March 25th. Maybe some things will improve, at least I hope so. Erwin

  6. To be honest, the all-in-white layout hurts my eyes. PLEASE give us back the grey background in the thumbnail area.

  7. Murat, just for clarification: I have no doubt, you do a lot of testing before providing an external test version here in the forum. I am also sure, this includes testing the GUI in the sense that it cannot produce crashes and does work as designed. But I am wondering since quite some time, how much you did and do invest in usability studies to verify the design? I could make a long list of inconsistent or inconvenient behaviors of the user interface, but to be honest, I gave up to report those, because I came to the impression, nobody cares about it or doesn't have enough resources to do more on it (which is understandable).

  9. Hi, For me as a user it would have been better you would have invested more time in developing the existing software. An example: I am using the server version. I want to use OpenStreetmap. But this is only possible in the web client. But linking and grouping do not work with the web client. So I can't take advantage of all the possibilities that the software can actually do. I think a homogenization would have been more urgent than a "new" GUI. Erwin

  10. This is why I stayed with 6.4.0.2120, after this version waste screen space started. Looks like (through screen copy) this V7 is worst. I'm happy with my old version ;-)

  11. There is no improvement at all. Waste of space, terrible layout etc etc. Obviously, the programmers spent a lot of time for worsening the interface. On the other hand, they ignore several bugs I sent them already 2 years ago which could be fixed very easily within a few minutes by a medium skilled programmer. Shame on you!

  12. If Daminion fails to update the tags in the file, the error message is only written into the log file, but it is not visible in the UI (at least in certain cases). I don't think anyone is actively following the logs, if there are no visible issues. This will lead to a situation, where the problems are not identified, analyzed and corrected and several files will not be in sync with Daminion database. See

  13. Rene: My suggestion would be to not open these ports directly to the Internet unless you know what you are doing. I would setup a VPN and pass those ports through your router/access point. Nothing is guaranteed to be 100% secure but I think that is a better solution. Frank Hahn

  14. I am using the free version of Daminion for several years now, and I am very pleased with it. In the forum I see that version 7.2 is avaliable, but I can only see a link for the Server version and not for the standalone as before. Please let me know where to find the latest version of the Standalone.

  15. @WilfriedB @Uwe Thank you all! I'm reading the documentation. Basically I would get B scheme: https://daminion.net/docs/scheme-b-documents-and-daminion-server-are-located-on-the-same-computer/ And client too would be on the same machine. Given that I use this machine for video editing I think I would shut off Daminion server processes when not in use. Bye

  20. I would like to sincerely thank you all for your thoughtful replies. After consideration, I have decided that I will be ignoring the "Names" provided for the Place tags, and just entering a structured list that will enable the family to find images again. For example: If the photos are from a canoe trip down the Ottawa river, which is the boundary between Ontario, and Quebec, I would just enter Canada / Ottawa River. If the photos are from our cottage in Alberta, I would enter Canada / Alberta / Cottage. This is much easier to find than trying to remember at some future time, which "State" or "City" I entered. If I want to find Sleeping Giant Park photos, I do not want to have to remember, or have someone else try to figure out, whether I decided it was closest to Thunder Bay, Red Rock, or Pass Lake as a "City". We will easily find : Canada / Ontario / Sleeping Giant. Thanks for helping me figure out what will work for us. Peter

  21. A request. For the new Layout. Anychance the font on the propertise window could be smaller.. Or is there a way to do that all ready. The font size used on the list table is perfect. Also it is much better in dark mode (I turned to the dark side. LOL)

  24. Jetzt haben wir bereits den 16. Juni . . .

  25. I think our best hope is that our "underpowered NASes" are now sufficiently powerful that with plenty of RAM, the newer higher spec + models are capable of running Windows in a VM. I think that's the way to go. It's a delicious irony though that the NASes that are declared by Daminion to be incapable of running Daminion, may well be able to do not only that, but also to run two extra layers in the stack, the VM and the Windows OS to enable Daminion to run. Realistically, this has never really been about the power of the NASes. Daminion just wants to concentrate on its major revenue stream, which is in the Windows space. It's odd when you consider how many web servers now run Linux. But it is what it is.

  26. Agree it is confusing, but also logical in my opinion: You cannot assign a group as tag to an image whereas the root level of a hierarchy can be assigned to images, regardless whether they are also tagged with one or more of the lower levels. I came to the conclusion that the groups don't make much sense to me. Mainly because they are not written into metadata.
    1 point
  27. Hi Wilfried, You're right, that's the difference. I find it irritating that the elements are not counted in groups. Now I have to decide whether to switch to hierarchical tags. Thanks.

  29. I have two entries for State and City with zero files shown for both. There are 2707 files tagged France, and all of then have a State entry, so "State" should not show up at all. Does anyone know if this can be fixed? I also have two entries for "Country". Obviously files that have not been tagged, but why two, one black, and one grey with different numbers of files? I added files from a local catalog, and re-read directories to add files that were not in the local catalog, if I recall correctly. A lot of the entries needed to be corrected due to spelling or tagging errors. Thanks, Peter

  31. After all, what makes me angry is the marketing statement "Brand New User Interface". For what? Some different icons and Tray is now Favorites - who cares? Color changes which - according to Murat - some internal testers did like, but in this forum, I did not see any positive comment on that. Good, they are doing something, but I have the impression, the development team missed a turn at some point.

  32. Thanks Wilfried I think you'll be seeing me back here a bit more because Synology have DSM 7 in beta at the moment. It has a completely new photo management app so I'll have to write a new Daminion help section to describe the new integration. So, for a while at least, Daminion version 7 will integrate with Synology DSM version 7 in a happy coincidence

  34. OK I obviously touched a nerve so let me elaborate: 1. No I was not paid 2. This is a member forum is it not? if we come here to criticise and raise bugs are we not also entitled to come here to praise? 3. If you read my simple post again you'll see that I made one point, that, love it or hate it, the arrival of a new UI indicates that the product has a future. I for one was very concerned that development of the desktop client had lagged behind the web client and I was concerned that it might even be withdrawn 4. UI redesign is always contentious. Like I said, it's a love or hate it situation. I didn't say it was perfect, merely that it was a good way forward. 5. I would agree that a light and dark option would be good. Many apps that I use have that ability. 6. Omelettes, eggs Have a good day everyone.

  35. Thanks for the link. I tried them all but the folders still show as Read Only (even after a reboot), however, I can now write keywords out ok which is good when I run it as my normal user. I'll have to keep an eye on it and do some more research to see why the directories are remaining as "Read Only".

  38. Is there any way to monitor the progress of generating AI labels? I'm attempting to generate labels for a lot of unlabeled photos (now that the "search for unassigned" bug is fixed), but it seems like a bunch of photos are not getting labeled, even after several hours. It's difficult to tell whether they aren't getting queued, whether the queue is stalled, or whether they were not processed successfully. When I look at the cvis.txt log file, I see a lot of entries like: DEBUG 2020-03-19 13:03:35,751 CVis.OrchestratorActor [29] - NextTaskMessage INFO 2020-03-19 13:03:35,760 CVis.ImageTask [29] - not found media items for processing DEBUG 2020-03-19 13:03:35,762 CVis.OrchestratorActor [29] - WorkDoneMessage DEBUG 2020-03-19 13:04:20,775 CVis.OrchestratorActor [29] - NextTaskMessage INFO 2020-03-19 13:04:20,791 CVis.ImageTask [29] - not found media items for processing DEBUG 2020-03-19 13:04:20,796 CVis.OrchestratorActor [29] - WorkDoneMessage DEBUG 2020-03-19 13:05:05,808 CVis.OrchestratorActor [33] - NextTaskMessage INFO 2020-03-19 13:05:05,818 CVis.ImageTask [33] - not found media items for processing DEBUG 2020-03-19 13:05:05,821 CVis.OrchestratorActor [33] - WorkDoneMessage DEBUG 2020-03-19 13:05:50,825 CVis.OrchestratorActor [34] - NextTaskMessage INFO 2020-03-19 13:05:50,840 CVis.ImageTask [34] - not found media items for processing DEBUG 2020-03-19 13:05:50,843 CVis.OrchestratorActor [34] - WorkDoneMessage DEBUG 2020-03-19 13:06:35,848 CVis.OrchestratorActor [35] - NextTaskMessage INFO 2020-03-19 13:06:35,859 CVis.ImageTask [35] - not found media items for processing DEBUG 2020-03-19 13:06:35,862 CVis.OrchestratorActor [35] - WorkDoneMessage When I look at my Google Cloud Vision API metrics, I see 89 requests in the past hour, but none in the past several minutes, and that's after marking 2000 photos in Daminion for labeling. 39. Wanted to share a solution I created using AWS or facial recognition and tagging. This is just the spark notes on my flow - let me know if interested in code snippets or a more detailed write-up. There are a couple solutions using lightroom and the old picasa. When testing AWS rekognition worked WAYYYY better. I am using daminion server for home - use case is photos from family members phones, gopro, drone in one place easy to access. Process Create Database of Faces in AWS 1 time step, or multiple times when adding new faces/people AWS requires an index of faces that it uses to match. I took individual pictures of people I wanted to tag cropped them to only have the subject's face and indexed them using aws's boto3 module in python. Here I specified the 'external parameter id' field as '[lastname]|[firstname]'. That way when there is a match I have the exact tag that will be added to the photo and recognizable by daminion Match Photo The process for a single photo is as follows: Index faces in the photo (the faces will be indexed with the collection created prior) (python boto3) loop through the faces and find matches (python boto3) Matches are returned as %match. If 95% or higher save tag and move onto the next photo, if less then 95-80% tag all matched faces. Here I error'd on the side of more false positives vs more false negatives Use exiftool to add all the tags saved in step 3 Automation I have a SMB drop box. All users drop photos into the box either manually or automatically with owncloud or nextcloud. Every hour a scheduled task is run that: adds create_date to photo name if not included (iphone for example does not have a unique timestamp in file name) if file does not exist in catalog continue, otherwise delete search and tag faces in photo with python script above move photo to proper picture storage location Daminion file watching service adds it to the catalog This is for all new photos, for historical photos I used a python script to scan and tag all of them. I also add a tag of face_detected if a face was detected but no match was found. This allows for re-scanning in the event you update your face index and want to rescan.

  41. Yes, you're right. I tried also with 'Authors' but didn't worked. (I didn't realized it was possible to assign several Authors). So, looks like it's not possible to sort tags which can have several entries but Daminion can internaly sort keywords. for example, in this media I assigned keywords in this order V16, V15, v14, V13, V17 (as shown in Details view) but in properties panel keywords are sorted alphabeticaly !! Most of the time sorting by keywords is not very usefull but sometimes it is. So why not sorting them as it's already done in properties panel ?

Hi, I'd like to exclude all items with keyword 'Voiture' As keyword list is pretty long, I expected easier to do this in advanced panel but didn't find 'Does not contains' or 'Not equals' in condition list. Ok, I did this in long keyword list and with 'Alt' key exclude 'Voiture' Now, if I come back to advanced search panel, I got 'Not equals' selected but not listed in conditions list !!! Would be nice to add 'not equals' in conditions list.

  48. Hi, I know that Daminion team is not aware of ergonomic keyboard shortcut (most of people use a mouse), but anyway, let's try. In folder tree you can browse it with up/down arrow key from keyboard (good) Now, what would be awsome (from keyboard user point of view) is to validate (green dot) selected folder (2019 02 10 Ski Chamrousse) with 'Enter' key. If If you want to extend this ergonomic consideration, a double clic on folder name would apply green dot on this folder. This is a bit less restrictive than to hint small area (circle at the end of folder name) with cursor.

  49. Hi, I could finally solve it by blocking Daminion Server by the firewall. Maybe there is a misconfiguration? The firewall is blocking every second 100+ connections!? Remote address: 255.255.255.255 Aim port: 15253 Protocol: UDP Outgoing Does this say anything to anybody? Thank you!!
